| Wing Ding Report Eight of us made it to this years Wing Ding. The trip to Greenville was taken in several ways by each of us. Betsey and Jean went down via Franklin, NC the week before to mine for emeralds. Gary and I took 2 days to go down the backroads of western NC. Sandy and Pam went through the mountains on the super slab and Mike and Cynthia travelled down Rt 29 through the big cities. We all enjoyed a cook-out at the RV Wednesday evening. Thursday we all searched the vendors for deals on must haves. Jean and I got the Wing pin stripped and installed Mick o Pegs. Some of us took seminars on Friday too. I checked out the Top Gun competition for future reference --- hehehe. Friday afternoon we rode in the mass ride and finished at the river park downtown for the fireworks that night. Well, after a picnic and waiting for hours, we started leaving early and eventually all of us left before the fireworks started. The Motorcycle Travel Network worked great for us this trip. There were 12 folks where we stayed and we made some great new friends. We all returned by different routes and schdules. And, as they say, a good time was had by all. The Honda Hoot Last week Sandy, Pam, Mike and I went the Honda Hoot. The Hoot is in Knoxville Tennessee. This year the crowd was down but the activities were still fun. The vendors had a few new things and I met some new folks to do some biking with later on. Friday, Sandy, Pam, their two friends and I rode the "dragon" and the Cherahala Skyway. It was an all day trip but well worth it. The scenery was beautiful and the weather great. In the evenings there are always big outdoor parties with bands, food and plenty of bikes. I had my regular funnel cake too. If you get a chance you may enjoy taking in the the Hoot. It is a good, clean, rally especially for Honda folks. A Country Camping Trip By Richard Carr Several weeks ago Gary Edgecomb and I went on a couple day's camping trip. Gary had found an article in biker magazine about a ride in WV and we decided to try it. Gary took off for the first day alone and discovered some nice places to ride in north central WV. I met him at Judy Gap the second day and we filtered down through the national forest to Watoga State Park just out or Marlington. Boy, camping with Gary is FIRST CLASS. Gary had every convienance I had ever seen in a campground. He even had a coffee maker for breakfast coffee. The man travels top drawer! After a nice ride into town we found a wonderful mountain road that was getting even too small and adventurous for me. But at the end of 20 or so beautiful, deserted mountain miles we found a close to perfect campground. Blue Bend Park out of White Sulfer Springs WVis one of the most peaceful places I have ever seen. Gary and I are hatching up a Chapter P camping trip especially designed for non campers to enjoy it this summer. The park is about 2.5 hours form C'ville and well worth the ride. I had to get home, so Gary turned west and continued for another day. and as they say --A good time was had by all. |
